Trenton, May 10, 2018–New Jersey Future and the Association of Environmental Authorities of New Jersey support Senate Bill 1073, which would allow municipalities, counties, and certain utilities to create stormwater utilities, and have released the following statements:
“New Jersey’s stormwater management systems are crumbling, and the health of our residents and our businesses are at stake. It is time for New Jersey to join the 40 states across the country that have authorized stormwater utilities to generate the revenue needed to undertake these costly repairs. Now is the time for New Jersey to give its communities the same opportunity to take action,” said New Jersey Future managing director of policy and water Chris Sturm.
“Effectively managing stormwater, like treating wastewater, promotes public health and a cleaner environment. This bill will help New Jersey do that,” said Peggy Gallos, executive director of the Association of Environmental Authorities.
