New Jersey Future statement on the enactment of key resilience planning law

TRENTON, February 4, 2021 —New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach released the following statement on the enactment of S2607:

“New Jersey took a critical step today toward climate resilience with the enactment of S2607. Municipalities will now be required to include climate-related vulnerability hazard assessments in their master plan updates, reducing our communities’ susceptibility to climate threats, which will only intensify as the atmosphere warms. This is a huge win, not only for climate advocates, but also for the families and businesses impacted by climate change now and in the future. Thank you to sponsors Senator Smith, Senator Greenstein, Assemblywoman Pinkin, Assemblyman Benson, and Assemblyman McKeon, and Governor Murphy for your commitment to making New Jersey more resilient for everyone.”
